Teramo, five cars on fire in a pharmaceutical company: suspicion of arson

Five luxury cars on fire last night at the pharmaceutical company Health Progress Italia Srl in Notaresco: a 360-degree investigation is underway, from short circuit to arson. The flames engulfed the cars, for reasons still being determined by the police, along State Road 150, in an open parking area in the hamlet of Piane Vomano, where the main headquarters of the agency.

The story

The firefighters were called shortly after midnight by some passers-by who, traveling along the SS150, noticed a blanket of black smoke and smelled burnt tyres. The first units to arrive on the scene were two patrols of the Carabinieri from Cellino Attanasio and Notaresco, who were nearby. Immediately afterwards the firefighters intervened with two fire engines, a tanker and two off-road vehicles equipped for fire control.

Upon their arrival, a BMW Series 2, a Mercedes E-Class and a Mazda 6 had already been completely destroyed, along with a Land Rover Discovery which was partially set on fire and a Fiat Doblò which suffered only light damage due to the heat developed by the fire. Due to the strength of the flames, they also spread to the nearby warehouse of a commercial establishment for the retail sale of healthcare products, causing only superficial damage to the walls and roof. Fortunately, no serious damage was reported, as firefighters managed, not without difficulty, to put out the flames.

The Teramo Prosecutor’s Office has launched an investigation into the matter, considering whether the fire was caused by a short circuit in one of the cars or whether there was malicious action. The cars involved have been seized for further investigations. Yesterday morning, the fire brigade technicians returned to the site to conduct further investigations together with the carabinieri of the Giulianova Company, who are handling the investigations in addition to the normal routine obligations. We will have to wait a few days for the results of the analyzes on the presumably flammable materials found in the area. Furthermore, in the next few days, the prosecutor will have to appoint an expert to verify whether the fire originated from a short circuit in one of the cars and which one, then spreading to the others and to the roof of the garage until it was incinerated.
