for some the extension smacks of mockery

RAVENNA The extension for the demolition of the beach huts has arrived from the Municipality. The news was greeted with a sigh of relief by many shed owners; for others, however, the new decision sounded like a mockery. They are those who in recent months have proceeded to dismantle the structures because they feared running into heavy sanctions: «If I could go back… – sighs one of those who removed the shed -. At this point I can say that dismantling it was a mistake, if I hadn’t done it at least I would have enjoyed one last summer in my little oasis. Instead, now I don’t know what to do. If in doubt, I have already paid the fee requested by the Municipality for the occupation of the spaces. I paid for it because I am part of the shed builders’ association and I don’t want to lose my membership. Let’s see what will happen later. Fortunately, I was very careful during the disassembly operations and kept all the parts, in view of a possible future assembly. I just have to wait and understand the evolution. There is also the hypothesis that I will have to move the shed about ten meters further forward, due to the fact that the dune has advanced over the years and has gradually become more and more extensive. The area where my cabin stood was initially on the edge of the dune, but is now completely surrounded. Reassembling the shed about ten meters further forward than where it has always been would be a big problem for me, given that I would end up directly inside the racket court that is set up in front of my structure every year.”

The president of the association of beach hut owners, Giorgio De Lorenzi, says that the moment is one of waiting: «The hope is that, after the words of the councilor Giacomoo Costantini and the mayor, a tender for the management of the huts will be issued by June seaside. Our association is ready to participate and finally provide certainties about the future. There are approximately seventy remaining structures. Based on current measures, the structures can no longer be removed until September 22nd. However, if the notice was not issued, from that date there would be 90 days to comply and remove them. Let’s hope this doesn’t happen. Meanwhile, we have received the request for payment of compensation for unauthorized occupation of state land. Just over 10 thousand euros in total, to be distributed among the shed owners.”
