Gustavo Ottolenghia deserving citizen of Sanremo and a well-known partisan, was a guest on the broadcast yesterday ‘5 minutes’ by Bruno Vespa, on Rai Uno.

Recorded in recent days, the episode focused on Partisans It is on 25 April. Ottolenghi, who yesterday was regularly present at the Liberation Day in ‘his’ Sanremo, told his story.

I had 11 years Ottolenghi when, in 1944 with his wooden clogs (brought on broadcast), he ran the relay with some ‘tickets’ that he hid inside. He lived in Monferrato with his family when he began to ‘work’ for those who were fighting for it Resistance and freedomduring the regime and the war.

In addition to this, Ottolenghi went to the top of the town’s towers to observe the road that led from Turin to Farmhouse. When he saw the Germans arriving for the ’roundups’, Gustavo would run down and raise the alarm. He also told Bruno Vespa how he was savedtogether with his family, from deportation as happened to many Italians of Jewish origin.

It was Gustavo’s father who decided to send his wife and son two distinct partisan brigades, asking both of them to meet in Turin, in a very specific point, under a monument. Without news of his parents, at 12 years old, Ottolenghi said he only met them three days after the end of the war.

Not without a hint of emotion he said: “It went well and he was right. That way we were all saved. However, it was a difficult moment because, if I hadn’t found my parents, I would have been alone at 12 years old, in the big city. We also provided a pinch of freedom.”
