Fiber optics increased by 75%

From the extension of optical fibre, video surveillance and free Wi-Fi to the complete digitalisation of services for businesses and citizens to simplify and make procedures safer. With the vote in favor of the majority groups (Pd, Europa Verde-Verdi, Sinistra per Modena and Modena Civica), of Modena Sociale-Indipendenza! and 5 Star Movement and with the abstention of Lega Modena, Alternativa Popolare and Forza Italia, in the session of Monday 8 April, the City Council approved the ‘Digital Plan 2024 – Smart City Programming of the Municipality of Modena’, as a policy tool strategy and planning of the Smart City.

The 2024 digital plan, illustrated by the Smart City councilor Ludovica Carla Ferrari, continues and updates the work accomplished in recent years. Among the main aspects, Modena has achieved the objective of bringing online all the Municipality’s services aimed at businesses and private individuals with access with digital identity from Spid, Cie or Cns with all payment services through PagoPA (especially regarding businesses). As regards the diffusion of optical fibre, in the last four years the number of offices outside Man has increased by 75 percent, also thanks to the 1Giga Italia Plan which will also allow the connection of approximately 4 thousand private users in areas of the Forese area. The city’s video surveillance network has also been updated and expanded and currently has 480 cameras and over 50 gates for license plate and transit control.
