First vanguards of foreigners but Fano is late in welcoming them

First vanguards of foreigners but Fano is late in welcoming them

FANO The tourist season takes its first steps in conjunction with the public holidays between April 25th and First of May. But is Fano ready? «No comments», begins Luciano Cecchini, president of the Alberghi Consorziati coop. The weather forecast instead, it is an explicit sword of Damocles: bad weather and rain in recent days have not encouraged travel towards the sea, even if an improvement and temperatures more in line with the time of year are expected from tomorrow.

Attendance

Undoubtedly positive notes, however, from sports tourism. «Fano – says Cecchini – is not a city of art like Rome, Milan, Florence or Venice and consequently it is difficult when the weather is crazy. The tourist becomes reluctant to move towards the coast if he is not sure of finding sun and heat. However, a few groups were seen, also as a reflection of Pesaro as the capital of culture, and in the historic center I met groups of English and Swedes. The sector, however, has excellent feedback from sport, which offers high-level events in both rowing, sailing and athletics and in this case I mean the ColleMar-Athon.

In July there will be an important international parachuting event, which will attract around 400 of the best athletes in the world to Fano. There is also a lot of anticipation regarding the summer football camps, for example the Inter youth sector has already confirmed its appointment at the Sant’Orso facility. It can be said that we get by thanks to sport.”

Thinking in terms of tourist arrivals and presences has become complicated, in the current phase of the year as in others. «The tourist – continues Cecchini – moves at the last minute and organizes his holidays looking for different types of experiences. Maybe he spends three or four days in Fano, then moves, I don’t know, towards the Lower Marche. Here, from this point of view the city and its valleys have so much beauty and goodness to offer: landscapes, art, monuments, excellent food, hospitality. I will never tire of repeating that the strong point is in the ability to create a network between seaside tourism and a fascinating hinterland. We had proof of this during the three days at the Nice Fair, which gave excellent results. The Marche was a place hidden from large tourist flows, now it is a destination of European interest. The Region has set up a high-level promotional campaign and the results are being appreciated.”

Family tourism continues to be the privileged sector for the Fano hospitality sector, but the clear impression is that the city is late compared to the events that count in late spring. Among operators in the sector, there is indeed perceptible widespread discontent regarding the maintenance of greenery, from the road entrances in Fano to the historic centre. Concern about the new parking tanks announced in Saxony, about which there is no immediate information at the moment. A further issue, perhaps the most heartfelt, is the number of open construction sites, particularly in the seaside area. The important thing, it is said, is that the works were completed before the summer peak.
