Descriptive text here

The presentation of the book will take place today, Friday 26 April, at the Teatro Costabile in Lamezia Terme, at 6.30 pm “Promised Land” by Gaetano Fera

Dialogue with the Author will be: Antonio Pagliuso (Artistic Director of the Al Vaglio Association) and Renato Ghezzi (Professor of Economic History at the Magna Grecia University of Catanzaro).

The initiative is part of the “Paths of Art and Culture in Lamezia Terme” project created by the Associazione al Vaglio and is part of the activities promoted by the Committee for the celebrations of the centenary of the birth of Franco Costabile.

The historical tale, as already defined in various reviews of Fera’s book, offers a scenario on the social and economic context in Calabria in the immediate post-war years; scenario that greatly inspired Franco Costabile’s civil poetics.

Through the story of the protagonist, citing by name people who actually existed and events that actually happened, the condition of the Calabrian people, especially the peasant class, is examined and a detailed examination of the great events, often overlooked, which affected Calabria in that historical period; among these: the circulation of AM lire, the land occupation struggles, the wild deforestation of forests.

Events which then led to a forced and painful emigration, a true diaspora of the Calabrians, towards lands overseas.
