Italy qualified for the Olympics also in the 470 Mixed, victory at the LCR in Hyeres for Ferrari-Dubbini

Hyeres– Italian sailing achieves Olympic qualification in the 470 Mixed, obtaining the first two places at the Last Chance Regatta in Hyeres. Giacomo Ferrari and Alessandra Dubbini won the LCR ahead of Elena Berta and Bruno Festo.

Federvela thus obtains the ninth qualification for the 2024 Marseille Olympic Regatta out of ten classes. Only the 49er class will not go to the Games, which missed the qualification despite placing Ferrarese-Chisté and Crivelli Visconti/Calabrò among the top ten.ñ at the Last Chance Regatta.

All that remains to be decided is which of the two crews will finish first tomorrow at the end of the Medal Race. The gap is only eight points (four boats given the double score): Ferrari-Dubbini are on 19 points, Berta-Festo on 27. For the Men’s Skiff Italy does not qualify but remains in the running for possible repechages. Tomorrow the task will be to close the medal race won by both Italian crews in the best possible way.

Today’s competitions saw all classes involved, divided between the Last Chance Regatta (LCR) for nations looking for their last Olympic ticket and the Qualified Nations (QN) for those already in possession of qualification.

As regards the LCR, Italy competes in two disciplines: in the Mixed Dinghy (470 MIX) and in the Men’s Skiff (49er). After the last day of racing, the Italian crews show good performances in the Mixed Dinghy, occupying the first two positions in the general classification, and mathematically closing the qualifying games with Ferrari-Dubbini in the lead with 19 points, followed by Berta-Festo with 27 points. In third position, we find the Slovenian crew Mrak-Bozik with 43 points.

In the Men’s Skiff category, Germany, Belgium and Brazil mathematically close the discussion by only playing for the record in tomorrow’s Medal Race. As mentioned, the Italians fail to qualify for the nation despite placing both crews in the top ten. Ferrarese-Chistè are sixth and in eighth place are Crivelli Visconti-Calabrò.
