PALERMO. The sixth edition of the project has concluded “The Sicily I would like” on legality, created by around 200 first year girls and boys “Enrico Fermi” Scientific High School in Sciacca. Every year a different theme and in this edition the theme was life, testimony, the man and the saint Father Pino Puglisi.
The children read and saw a film dedicated to him; on March 21, in Day of remembrance and commitment in memory of the innocent victims of the mafia they planted, thanks to Fidapa, an olive tree dedicated to the priest of Brancaccio in the school garden, inaugurating “The Garden of the Blessed”. The project ended on April 24th in Palermo, in Brancaccio, with a visit to Father Puglisi’s House Museum, where he lived and was killed; with the gift of a dish that the manager Maria Paola Raia did to the facility.
Finally, the boys and girls visited the murals of the Sperone district, a few kilometers from Brancaccio, for a walk with Sperone167 and with the principal ofICS “ Sperone-Pertini ”, Antonella Di Bartolo, who animated his speech by encouraging young people to take care of themselves above all; and to connect with your desires.
“Today more than ever we find ourselves facing issues of legality – He says Maria Rita Giambalvo, of the I°C – I think pausing and reflecting is really important for all of us. Unfortunately, the mafia is a topic that is often underestimated, but with the various research carried out during school hours we managed to understand that it is very important to pay attention to words and gestures”.
Those of Sperone are images that fully represent the daily life of that neighborhood – continues. The murals we saw today have different meanings, but they manage to inject a bit of color on a daily basis, into a life that always seems in black and white. It is important to desire, hope, always have a goal to achieve in our life. Dreaming is not ‘something for children’, but as in this case, the reality that we saw with our own eyes today is proof that dreaming and persevering are values to be kept jealously guarded in the soul.”
