TURIN – On the occasion of the anniversary of the liberation, the Cit Turin LDE company organized a small tournament aimed at the Under 10 and Under 19 female categories.
April 25 represents a fundamental date in the history of our country, as we commemorate the liberation from the occupation of the Nazi and fascist regimes, the culmination of partisan resistance. This day is of great significance for Italy, but unfortunately sometimes still the subject of political debate; however, it establishes an important piece in our system and in the founding values of the democracy in which we live our daily lives.
The Piedmont region, in particular, has a historically deep connection with this anniversary, having been one of the sad theaters of war and resistance. The Turin club Cit Turin is well aware of this bond, and for today’s tournament it has decided to pay homage to the memory of Laura Lucca, known as Liberina, to whom the women’s football school was also dedicated.
During the war of liberation, Liberina, a milliner from Turin, played a crucial role in maintaining contacts between the partisan formations of the Canavese area and the city. After being denounced, imprisoned and finally released, she was tragically killed by fascist forces on April 27, 1945.
In addition to commemorating Liberina, the Turin club also wants to remember the young Luciano Domenico, after whom the men’s football school was named. Luciano, a partisan courier of just 11 years old, lost his life in a farmhouse in Givoletto, while trying to convince his companions to surrender.
This day of commemoration is an important occasion for reflection, in which we should condemn all totalitarian regimes and oppression not only in our territory, but also towards those who, even today, fight for freedom seeking their own 25th April.
