Piacenza is preparing to celebrate the 79th anniversary of the Liberation, which on the morning of Thursday 25 April will see, at 9.30, a preview of the institutional ceremony, with the unveiling of the commemorative plaque of the Fallen of 9 September 1943 in Piazzale Genova, returned to the city after the recent maintenance work carried out by the North Heavy Maintenance Centre. On this occasion, the president of the Fighters and Veterans Association Raffaele Campus will be present alongside the mayor Katia Tarasconi. At 10am, the traditional procession will depart from Piazzale Genova which – stopping for a moment of reflection near the Monument to the Fallen for the Resistance in Stradone Farnese – will reach Piazza Cavalli where the official celebrations will be held, with speeches by the mayor Katia Tarasconi, by the president of the Province Monica Patelli and the speech by the journalist and writer Gad Lerner, designated by the Anpi provincial committee. Followed by the religious function in the Basilica of San Francesco.
The initiatives proposed by Anpi will continue, in the heart of the historic center, throughout the day, between Piazzetta Pescheria and the porticoes of Palazzo Gotico. The refreshment service will be active from 12pm, while at 2pm the singer-songwriters Davide Cignatta and Alessandro Colpani will take to the stage for the dedicated concert “Canti di Resistenza, popular e d’autore”. At 3.45pm, the musical program will see the Voci Bianche choir of Piacenza on stage directed by Maestro Giorgio Ubaldi, accompanied by Francesco Degli Antoni on the piano, singing “Canti per la pace”. From approximately 4.45pm to 5.15pm, with the intervention of the authors, the latest historical research on the Piacenza Resistance will be presented, and then leave room for music again with the concert, from 5.30pm to 7pm, by the folk group Corte dei Miracoli. LIMITATIONS ON ROAD – At the same time as the institutional events take place, the taxi parking areas in via Sopramuro and via Cavour will be suspended from 8am to 2pm on Thursday 25 April, with a simultaneous move to via IV Novembre in the Cheope area. As regards traffic restrictions, from 8am on Thursday 25 April, until the end of the official ceremony, a parking ban will be established with forced removal on both sides in Piazzale Genova, in the stretch of Corso Vittorio Emanuele between Via Palmerio and Via Nova , in the stretch of Stradone Farnese between via Palmerio and number 3, in Piazza Cavalli (where traffic will also be prohibited between 9 and 12), in Piazzetta S. Ilario, Piazzetta Plebiscito and Piazzetta Grida, with the sole exception of vehicles serving the event. In conjunction with the passage of the procession, there may be brief interruptions to the traffic along Corso Vittorio Emanuele, but traffic will be coordinated by the Local Police.
We would also like to remind you that, to allow the Liberation Day organized by Anpi to take place safely between 12pm and 7pm, in the entire area close to the event – including Piazza Cavalli, Largo Battisti, Piazzetta Mercanti, Piazzetta Grida, Via Calzolai , via XX Settembre, via Cavour, via Cittadella, via Mazzini, via Sopramuro, via San Donnino, piazza Plebiscito, corso Vittorio Emanuele, via Garibaldi, vicolo Perestrello, via Sant’Antonino, via Illica and piazzetta Pescheria – it is absolutely forbidden for operators of food and drink administration activities, itinerant commercial activities and artisanal activities of production and sale of food goods, administration, consumption and sale of drinks and food in glass containers or cans of any kind, providing for the use of containers made of paper or other material, preferably biodegradable and in any case non-polluting. Citizens, in the indicated areas, must also observe the ban on the consumption and possession of drinks and food in glass containers and cans. Administration using these materials will be permitted exclusively for table and counter service in public establishments, without the possibility of take-away. The violation entails an administrative fine of 500 euros, with reduced payment within the following five days for an amount equal to 333.33 euros.
