The philologist and historian said so Luciano Canfora in the anti-fascist conversation he held in Bari on the occasion of the 79th anniversary of the liberation of #Italy from the Nazi-fascist forces.
“The ‘presentness’ of the past – added the professor emeritus of the University of Bari – means that the questions opened at the time, the attempts at solutions given then are still an open problem. They are historical turning points, epochal events that open up questions that last much longer than #is foreseeable. Historical time #is elastic. Against those who annoyingly say ‘stuff from 80 years ago, let’s talk about today, a semi-indifferent argument that #is widespread in circles that don’t like what happened at all. 80 years ago, it should be noted that that issue #is still in the balance, in danger.”
Canfora has just been sent to trial after being sued for aggravated defamation by the prime minister Giorgia Meloniwhich the philologist – during a meeting with students in a high school in Bari – had defined as “neo-Nazi at heart”.
