In a Region with performances in terms of guaranteeing the right to abortion well below the national average (remember the regional press: Veneto has longer waiting times and a greater number of objecting doctors, anesthetists and nurses), the proposal deposited in Parliament of allowing anti-abortion associations to enter the clinics through the main door will have the effect of further restricting the guarantees for women.
What we are witnessing is yet another ferocious attack by the Italian right on the right to self-determination, won over years of disputes and sealed by a referendum. The right continues with its project: to empty the 194, filling the path with obstacles.
As Sinistra Italiana Veneto we hope for a strong and clear stance against this drift (even from the so-called “liberal” sectors of the majority at Palazzo Ferro Fini, if they exist…), and we equally forcefully ask the Region to promote every action to guarantee the effectiveness of the Ivg service in our territory.
It is simply unacceptable that the Venetian rate of interventions within 14 days of certification is the worst at a national level. A change of pace is therefore needed. If this is not the case, we will also have to consider the inertia towards these merciless numbers as part of that plan which aims to boycott and empty the effectiveness of the 194 from within.
