Rose Garden Festival at the Botanical Gardens with more than 200 roses to photograph

The traditional one returns on Sunday 5 May Rose Garden Festival which in 2024 also celebrates the Fascination of Plants Daya prestigious international event to which thePavia Botanical Garden has joined.

The most awaited and traditional event at the Botanical Garden – now in its 29th edition – will be an unmissable opportunity to admire the two hundred roses which constitute one of the main collections of the Botanical Garden, which is part of the University Museum System of the University of Pavia.

The Botanical Garden can be visited independently or guided by theAssociation of Friends of the Botanical Garden and from curator of the Gardenwho will pay particular attention to the rose collection renewed in recent years.

Also of great interest are the new collections (financed by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan of the Ministry of Culture) of carnivorous plantsaquatic, citrus, peonies, irishosta, bamboo and fruit trees.

Among the reasons to visit the Rose Garden Festival this year is also the Garden’s participation in the International Plant Fascination Day (Fascination of Plants Day 2024)the international event promoted by EPSO (European Plant Science Organization), in which over 220 entities including universities, research institutes, botanical gardens, parks, schools and academies participate, organizing events to raise awareness of the importance of research on plants.

The Rose Garden Festival will also be accompanied in this edition by a “outside the garden” with exposure and the possibility of buy rose plantsaromatic plants, grasses, dahlias and wildflowers from some well-known nurseries in northern Italy.

There will be space for the horticultural plants of the province of Pavia and the honey producers in addition to various proposals street food for lunches, snacks or aperitifs.

The cloister will also host the competition “The most beautiful Rose” by theAssociation of Friends of the Botanical Garden. Those interested in participating can present themselves the same morning, from 10.00 to 12.00, at the Association table with the rose or roses that they intend to participate in the competition.

The Rose gardenthe most popular collection of the Botanical Garden, was established after the Second World War by Raffaele Ciferri. In the last three years it has been involved in expansion, renovation and cataloging works.

Currently includes 200 specimens of botanical rosesancient and modern, among which they can be remembered Rosa agrestis, a native species with apple-scented leaves; the ancient one pink ‘Kazanlik’historically used for the preparation of rose essence and ‘La France’the first modern rose in history (1867).
