An important victory for the Trapani and Paceco Saline Oriented Nature Reserve: a photo taken inside the reserve was awarded with a “Special Mention” in the “Obiettivo Terra” 2024 geographical-environmental photography competition.

The competition, promoted by the UniVerde Foundation and the Italian Geographic Society, aims to enhance and promote Italy’s environmental heritage through photography. This year, among the 969 participating works, a photo that portrays the magnificent play of lights and colors in the tanks of the Sicilian reserve won the prestigious recognition.

The author of the award-winning shot is Tiago Marques, a young Portuguese photographer who was able to capture the essence of this unique place. In fact, his photo not only captures the breathtaking beauty of the salt marshes, but also the ecological value and biodiversity they contain.

An award that enhances the beauty and importance of the Reserve – Collecting the award, the director of the Trapani and Paceco Saline Oriented Nature Reserve, Silvana Piacentino, underlined the importance of this recognition: “We are very happy to have received this award It is a certificate of esteem for the beauty and uniqueness of our reserve, but also an important opportunity to raise public awareness of the value of protecting biodiversity.”

The award-winning photo of Tiago Marques will be published on the 2025 calendar of “Obiettivo Terra” and will be exhibited, together with the other winning photos, in a traveling exhibition that will visit various Italian cities.
