The Basic Fire Brigade Union wants to inform all citizens of some facts relating to the “Pompieropoli 2024 – 3rd edition” event.
“The first fact that catches the eye – the trade unionists begin – concerns the numbers: only 2 firefighters out of 33 on duty at the Piombino Detachment participated, we are talking about a percentage just over 5%”.
“The second element concerns the wording “3rd edition” as if Pompieropoli had been born in 2022 when instead the firefighters have always organized the event with the sole intention of entertaining the little ones and their families, trying to convey a sense of community and a message of welcome, sharing and respect for others. The last aspect to underline is that relating to the sponsorship by ‘Lega Piombino Salvini Premier’ which on its profiles states that it “strongly wanted the event which also included a simulation”. of rescue at sea and in which the MEP Ceccardi, famous for her positions against migrants, also participated”.
“Well – Usb continues – it is now clear to everyone how the event was politicised, in the midst of the electoral campaign, with the sole intention of appearing rather than actually involving the children. For this reason the Piombino firefighters did not join, and for the same reason in the photos of the event the firefighters’ uniforms were practically absent, making the name “Pompieropoli” at least inappropriate. Finally, we would like to add a note of coherence: the rescue at sea which is carried out daily by the State Corps, included the Fire Brigade, is an integral part of our work and we carry it out with professionalism and heart whether it is the Tyrrhenian Sea, the Adriatic or the Mediterranean Sea”.
“It is our way of being appreciated by citizens and transmitting the principles of welcome, integration and peace. Using the Fire Brigade as a decoy as has been done is in our opinion indecent – concludes Usb -. With the arrival of the 25th April we want to send a message of liberation and hope that from next year things can change and the event will once again become a moment FOR the firefighters FOR the citizens and their children”.
