The president of the autonomous province of Trento Maurizio Fugatti participated this morning in Trento in the celebrations for April 25th.

Together with him also the provincial health councilor, in addition to the mayor of the capital city, to the government commissioner Filippo Santarelli, to the deputy commissioner of Trento Andrea Vitalone, numerous civil and military authorities and a strong participation of citizens.

In his speech the president – recalling how the date of 25 April should not be considered the prerogative of a single political area but is a shared heritage to be safeguarded and defended together – underlined the need, in a scenario characterized by conflicts at the gates of Europe , to look at what moved men and women in April 1945 who, returning from dramatic years, managed to rebuild the country, strong in their newfound freedom and animated by the desire for peace and democracy.

The president also recalled the impact that the nationalist and centralist dimensions had onautonomy and the history of Trentinoon the rights denied to linguistic minorities, hoping that today, faced with unprecedented difficulties, solutions can be found that put an end to conflicts while respecting freedoms and peoples.

The celebrations opened with the solemn mass in memory of the fallen officiated in the church of San Francesco Saverio. From here the ceremony moved on via Belenzani for the placing of laurel wreaths on the tombstones of the fallen in Palazzo Thun.

The procession – accompanied by the City of Trento Musical Corps – then moved in the direction of Portela Square, to then pay homage to the fallen with a stop at the Provincial Palace, at the Partisans gallery and in Piazza Pasi, to finally conclude his journey at Palazzo Geremia, where the commemoration ceremony opened by the exhibition was held in the reception hall of the Bella Ciao choir.
