This morning, in the presence of Prefect Paola Spena, the official ceremonies took place for the celebration of the 79th Anniversary of the Liberation, jointly promoted by the Prefecture, the Capital Municipality and the Province of Avellino, in collaboration with the 232nd Regiment. “I must say that I have worked closely with institutions, law enforcement, citizens, young people and associations. This has led to very positive relationships, based on mutual respect and affection. It is undeniable that in these 4 years I fell deeply in love with Irpinia, so much so that I felt I was leaving a part of my heart here”, declared the Prefect Paola Spena who, today, presided over his last 25 April as Prefect of the capital of Irpinia, from 6 May he will be in Rome to fill the prestigious role of Extraordinary Commissioner for the recovery of assets confiscated from organized crime. “During this role, we have promoted various initiatives for young people to promote a sense of legality, belonging and trust in institutions. As regards work, we have established a legality protocol and an observatory that operates constantly, with inspection activities aimed at preventing tragedies such as those linked to deaths at work. We have also worked to raise awareness of crucial issues such as road safety, involving all the actors involved. Furthermore, we have focused on anti-mafia prevention, collaborating closely with the prefectures to identify and address the critical issues present in the area. I believe that combating the infiltration of organized crime into business and administrative activities is essential to protect citizens and support a healthy economy, but it is encouraging to see the effectiveness of the work carried out by the judicial authorities. We supported the Municipality during this transition phase towards the elections, hoping that the new administration can restore trust in the community. Furthermore, the organization of the G7 represents an extraordinary opportunity for Irpinia, and we thank the Minister Piantedosi for choosing our region as the venue for the events. Personally, I had the opportunity to interact a lot with citizens, associations and people during my mandate, especially during the difficult phase of Covid-19. We faced unique challenges, such as the management of red zones, demonstrating the resilience and solidarity of the Irpinia community. I would also like to thank the press for their fundamental role in making our actions transparent and keeping the democratic debate alive. I hope there is still a way to meet in the future. Despite the moment of transition we are experiencing, the presence of a commissioner offers a certain stability and allows the territory to evaluate the next choices with serenity. The upcoming vote represents an opportunity for the Avellino community to rebuild and find a representation that fully satisfies them”, concludes the Prefect of Avellino, Paola Spena.
