Aversa (Caserta) – On the candidacy for mayor of Mauro Baldascino for the centre-left coalition there is the unknown as to the support of “La Politica che Serve”, a group in support of the former mayor Alfonso Goliath.

That of Baldascino, an expert in social economics and use of assets confiscated from the mafia, is a name shared by the Democratic Party, M5S, Democratic Center, Progressisti per Aversa and Alleanza Verdi e Sinistra, as confirmed in a note by the city commissioner of the Dems, Eugenio Marinoand reported in a document signed by the same members.

But days ago the Goliath group left the centre-left table arguing that “the internal divisions of the Democratic Party still weigh on the choice of candidate for mayor and that we are witnessing a continuous procrastination and waltzing of names even when there appears to be convergence”. “Over time – they underlined from Lpcs – it became increasingly clear that the method adopted was focused in practice only on mere ‘being together’. We believe that this logic is short-sighted with respect to the mission and responsibility that resides in the word ‘politics’ and at this rate will not allow the center-left to present itself in the local elections with a truly competitive proposal capable of facing the city’s right-wing parties”. The hope of Goliath and company, therefore, is “real unity, an indispensable prerequisite for the construction of a competitive, credible and lasting political proposal”.

For his part, Commissioner Marino reiterates that Baldascino has shared support from the entire coalition, confirmed in a document signed by all the parties involved. All that is missing is the support of Lpcs which the commissioner himself has invited to return to the centre-left table. At that point, Lpcs underlined: “As soon as we receive the unitary document from the centre-left we will convene a public meeting for a necessary sharing. We, the leading political force in the city in the last elections, will do our part as always.”

On the other fronts, meanwhile, we find the civic “Il Basilisco” with a candidate for mayor of Eugenia D’Angelooutgoing city councilor, while the center-right is divided into two coalitions, one led by Francesco Matacenapresident of the Order of Accountants of Naples North – supported by Fratelli d’Italia, Forza Italia, “Immagina Aversa” founded by Orlando De Cristofaro and the “Moderates” of Giovanni Zannini – and another from Antonio Farinarolawyer and former president of the city council in the first council Ciaramellasupported by civics.
