“I don’t think it’s a valid solution. What should have been achieved and which never happened was the programmed number. It is wrong to talk about an open number as it is not an open number as such, but in the sense that those who want to register enrolls and then the problem appears after the first year in which there is a selection. A profession like the medical one must have a planning of professionals to be fielded. Medical faculties are not prepared, they are not prepared even for the first year have such a high number of students, which would be the case in this case. The story is very similar to what occurred in the period after ’68 when there was the same number of students who enrolled in Naples in 1970, in the rooms where there were students, out of 400 expected, there were 1300 of us and we took notes on the shoulders of the boy in front of us. This is what we want. The formula we want is one in which the learner can really learn both the theoretical and practical parts”.

This was said – on the sidelines of the Liberation Day celebrations in Piazza Vittorio Veneto – by the president of the Salerno Medical Association, Giovanni D’Angelo regarding the stop to limited numbers in medical faculties.
