NAS checks in Palermo, 107 kilos of fish seized

During the month of April, in continuation of the inspection activities aimed at protecting the health of citizens, the Carabinieri of the Nas of Palermo, with the support of the local Territorial Army and the technical staff of the ASP, carried out numerous checks in the Sicilian capital.

Seizures and fines

Following checks at some fishmongers in the Palermo local market (activities also aimed at verifying compliance with hygienic-sanitary conditions and European Union regulations on fish), the military seized 107 kilograms of fish, with a total value of approximately 4,000 euros, for which traceability had not been implemented correctly, in order to guarantee the safety of the food supply chain. Furthermore, at a supermarket in the south-western area of ​​the city, it was found that a room had been used, without the necessary authorization, as a food storage area. While, at a bakery in the centre, structural changes to the business were detected without having updated the health registration. At the conclusion of the inspection activities, overall administrative fines amounting to 3,500 euros were high.

Controls in the province

In the province of Palermo, a farm was also sanctioned for a total of 60,000 euros, where the Carabinieri personnel proceeded to block 38 heads of livestock because it did not have a company code and the animals were found to lack identification marks, as well as to the administrative seizure of 1,605 kilograms of animal feed, for which traceability had not been correctly implemented, in order to guarantee the safety of the food chain.

Blitz at Vucciria

In the Vucciria area, inspections were carried out within commercial activities in which various irregularities were reported. In detail, in one business there was a violation of art. 10 L.287/1991 for type A administration without wake for catering with an administrative fine of 5000 euros, a violation of art. 5 of EC regulation n. 852/04 for deficiencies sanitary facilities with a fine of 1000.00 euros, as well as the illegal occupation of 39 m2 of public land. In another commercial establishment, the illegal occupation of 20 m2 of public land and the violation of art. 5 of EC regulation no. 852/04 due to hygienic deficiencies were contested with a fine of 1000 euros. Both owners of the aforementioned commercial businesses were reported in a state of freedom for occupation of public land
