UDINE. There is a great tribute to Udine and to one of the most unforgettable artists of the area in the new video clip by guitarist Michele Pirona.

The video of “For Miles”, dedicated to Robert Miles, author of “Children” and other dance masterpieces, a world-renowned artist who passed away in 2017, will be premiered on Thursday 25 April, at 8.30pm at the Black Stuff in Udine (in via Gorghi 3), an acoustic guitar set by Pirona will follow, with original songs and some rearranged classics, including “Children”.

«It is a very sincere tribute – says Pirona – to Roberto Concina, aka Robert Miles, the Friulian who, in dance, placed the most records around the world. His “Children” struck me, I think it is among the best-known Italian songs abroad together with Ennio Morricone’s soundtracks. I am in contact with the father, Albino Concina, who has already seen the video.”

The song, written and played by the guitarist from Udine, is produced by Luca Franzolini, producer and musician who has played in historic bands of the Friulian scene (Jitterbugs, Monks, Aria di Golpe), while the video is directed by Gabriele Antonutti of Aeten Production and proposes the vision of an urban Udine. «You can’t see the classic Piazza San Giacomo or Piazza XX Settembre, you can glimpse the castle and the Ossuary Temple, for the rest it almost seems like Berlin. Since Miles’ original video was shot from the camera and showed a little girl in profile, we paid tribute to this too (by inserting my son’s profile).”

Michele Pirona is one of the most popular guitarists in the region; son of art (he followed in the footsteps of his father and uncle) taking his first steps in 1987, he tries his hand at various genres from rock to pop, blues, jazz, funky, flamenco, swing, Irish music up to metal, militating in bands like Euston; with the duo Guitar Sketch he also participated in “Italia’s Got Talent”, guest on “I soliti Ignoti” on Rai1. He has published numerous albums, the latest “Another point of view” was presented as an absolute premiere in France, at the prestigious Festival Guitare Issoudun, after winning the national competition as best Italian acoustic guitarist. He is currently working on new songs, the first single will be released in May.

«Thursday at the Black Stuff, the venue where I have performed most often over the years, represented a lot for the city and for my career, – anticipates the artist – I will propose a set of about an hour, including my own songs and rearranged covers (one above all: “White Wedding” by Billy Idol). There will be a guest on vocals in some pieces, Giovanni Zavagno, singer and author.”

If Pirona’s musical influences look beyond national borders, at the same time in his proposals we can always read a great attachment to his land: «A conflictual relationship – he reflects – on the one hand does not offer much for those who make music, on the other I feel very attached, here I have family, friends, memories… I feel like I am from Udine, but in general I am fond of the whole region, I also love Trieste where I often go in the summer. I would like there to be a little more attention, care, support for art, to do something concrete.”
