Faenza, on the Ghilana the majority is split

The majority is divided on the issue of the urbanization of Ghilana. Tuesday’s City Council vote did not lead to a final decision on the construction of the townhouses, a hot topic for months. The final decision was sent back to the Council of the Faenza Union, which met last night for a new vote.

The Faenza City Council had to express its opinion on the building project, but did not reach a conclusion: eleven votes in favor of blocking the urbanization and as many against.

The majority, intending to veto, did not appear united, with the absence of two councilors at the time of the vote (Matatia and Biolchini) and others who disagreed with the line dictated by the regional president Stefano Bonaccini. In recent months, in fact, the president of the Emilia Romagna Region has taken a position on the issue, arguing that building should no longer be built in flooded areas, but now in Faenza only the Democratic Party and the M5s have voted against the construction, following Bonaccini’s directive, while Italia Viva and Faenza Cresce (two members of the majority) supported the continuation of the project.

Faenza Cresce, represented by Luccaroni and Cappelli, has always defended these constructions, while Italia Viva (councillor Grillini) underlined the change in position of the municipal administration, which previously supported the construction, even post-flood, until changing course only after Bonaccini’s statements.

A “no” could lead the builders to ask for compensation for damages.

The opposition, with one councilor absent (Zoli), did not support the majority and voted unanimously to continue the urbanization. «Also because – explained Stefano Bertozzi of FdI – the changes requested to the project, such as raising the land above the water levels and the removal of the cellars, are in line with the necessary safety measures».

It highlights the conflict within the majority, the significance of which could extend beyond the dispute over the Ghilana.

The increase in the Tari

During the same session, a vote was taken, this time with a united majority, for a 7.05% increase in the Tari. The opposition spoke out against it, “especially at a time when the service has worsened” said Bertozzi, leader of FdI

Gabriele Padovani (Liberal Area) commented that «the fairy tale of ‘the more you recycle, the more you save’ is a lie, given that more and more profits go to Hera and taxpayers are increasingly harassed».

The bank of the Senio

Furthermore, four questions were presented regarding the condition of the right bank of the Senio, still marked by a marked fracture caused by the flood.

This issue was brought to Commissioner Figliuolo’s attention by a committee of farmers and residents during the opening of the Bailey Bridge last Friday. However, no answers were received on the times and methods of a recovery intervention, but only confirmation that the problem is a regional responsibility.
