April 25th in Salerno – celebratory events

Salerno celebrates the 79th anniversary of the Liberation with a series of commemorative events.

At 9 am, in the Church of the Sacred Heart, a Holy Mass will be held for the fallen, officiated by Father Raffaele Bufano and Don Giuseppe Greco, provincial chaplain of the State Police. During the mass, the “Partisan Prayer” will be recited.

Subsequently, at 9.40, in Piazza Vittorio Veneto, the ceremony of laying the laurel wreaths will take place on the War Memorial and on the tombstone of the Partisan Lieutenant Ugo Stanzione, followed by the reading of the “Prayer of the Fatherland” and speeches by the Prefect of Salerno, the mayor, the president of the Province, a representative of the trade union organizations (CISL), of the National Association of Fighters and Veterans and of the National Association of Partisans of Italy of Salerno.

At 10.25am, at the Sailor’s Monument, the flag raising and the laying of the laurel wreath of the National Sailors’ Association of Italy will take place, with the reading of the “Sailor’s Prayer”. Afterwards, at 10.40 in Piazza XXV Aprile, the president of the ANPI of Salerno will place a bundle of flowers.

Finally, at 11.10, at the Provincial Palace, the authorities and partisan associations will pay homage with a laurel wreath to the plaque of the Gold Medals of the Resistance.

“On April 25th everyone in the square for an extraordinary democratic, anti-fascist, constitutional People’s Day. ” declares the ANPI national secretariat “United to counter the increasingly pressing risk of an authoritarian drift in our country and to relaunch the essential value of PEACE in the world. Cease fire everywhere. LONG LIVE THE ANTI-FASCIST REPUBLIC!
