ANCONA Numana: 3,730 inhabitants of which 3,156 taxpayers and an average income of 24,288 euros. The charming village on the Conero Riviera is by far the richest municipality in the Marche, followed by Ancona, Camerino, Pesaro and Macerata. The ranking drawn up by the Mef counting the 2022 per capita incomes photographs the economic situation of the Marche region which reserves news and surprises.

But what has changed in our region since 2021 in the following 12 months? Meanwhile, an average income increase of 968 euros was recorded – from 19,672 to 20,641 euros – but remained stable in the national ranking in 11th place. And if Numana is the municipality where you earn the best, Monte Grimano Terme in the province of Pesaro Urbino is the poorest village, with an average income of 13,970 euros (867 taxpayers), followed by Bolognola and Frontino. As regards the capitals, however, Ancona remains in command, followed by Pesaro, Macerata, Ascoli and Fermo.

The return to normality

2022 should be considered the year in which the Marche region also fully returned to post-Covid normality, with an economic and tourist recovery that probably contributed to the relaunch of particularly attractive villages. Like for example Numana: with an average income of 24,388 euros (+1,235 compared to 2021) it also outclassed Ancona – 23,618 (+797) and 75,625 taxpayers – and even Senigallia, which stopped at 21,931 euros (+1056). Pesaro was proclaimed Capital of Culture 2024 in 2022 and perhaps this was also the push that placed it in second place among the Marche capitals with the highest average income: 22,798 (+887) and 74,720. Rossini’s city, however, slips to fourth place in the general ranking of Municipalities, preceded by Camerino, the historic university town of Macerata which, after the 2016 earthquake, managed to regain an income of 23,005 euros (+888) with 4,815 taxpayers. In the province of Macerata it is in first place, ahead of the capital, Recanati and Civitanova. The poorest municipality on the other hand is Bolognola, a village on the Sibillini devastated by the earthquake 8 years ago which loses as much as 1,405 euros compared to its 2021 income and stops at 14,570 euros with its 120 taxpayers.

The coast and the Sibillini

In the Fermo area there is Porto San Giorgio which stands out for income in the area: 22,101 (+1250 compared to 2021) with 11,956 taxpayers. It’s stopped? With 19,710 euros it is in third place, preceded by Monte Vidon Corrado: 543 taxpayers and an average income of 19,999 (+1441). The small, very industrious municipality, in addition to being the birthplace of the artist Osvaldo Licini, is renowned for the processing of straw aimed at making bags and hats. The 261 taxpayers of Smerillo, a village set on a rocky spur of the Sibillini, have the lowest income: 15,583 (+1027). In the Ascoli area, the hundred towers prevail over the coast: Ascoli records the highest average income with 21,873 euros (+1201) and beats San Benedetto, 20,602 (+1030), really by a hair’s breadth. The poorest country? Palmiano, 124 taxpayers with an average income of 15,693 euros.
