PERUGIA – All of Umbria is preparing to celebrate April 25th. In fact, in most of the centers of the region, numerous initiatives are planned to celebrate the 79th anniversary of the liberation of Italy from Nazi-fascism.

PERUGIA

The ceremonies will begin at 10.30 am at the civic cemetery where laurel wreaths will be placed at the shrine of the fallen and on the graves of the gold medals of the Resistance. In Borgo XX Giugno, starting from 11.15, the commemoration will take place at the plaque commemorating the patriots shot by the Nazi-fascists. At 12pm, at the Ara Paris, laurel wreaths will be laid at the monument to all those killed in the war.

TERNI

The program includes a commemorative ceremony at 10am in the council room of Palazzo Spada, with the mayor, the prefect, representatives of the Umbria Region and the Province of Terni, the president of the 13 June Section of the Anpi Terni. At 9.00 am in Forca di Cerro a laurel wreath will be placed at the Tombstone of the Yugoslavs fallen in the Resistance. At 10.30 am in the church of San Filippo the celebration of the Holy Mass will be held in memory of those fallen for the country, followed by a procession with the Carabinieri on horseback and in full uniform from Piazza Pianciani along Corso Mazzini, Via del Mercato, Via del Municipio up to Piazza Campello. At 11am, in via Matteo Gattaponi, at the commemorative plaque, a laurel wreath will be laid in memory of the 94 Italian and Slovenian political prisoners who escaped from the Rocca Albornoz prison in 1943 to join the partisan gangs of Valnerina. Afterwards, at the War Memorial in Piazza Campello there will be the laying of a laurel wreath in honor of the decorated Partisans of the ‘Melis Brigade’. In the afternoon, at 4.30 pm, in the frescoed room of the Civic Museum, with the journalist and writer Giovanni Dozzini who will present his latest book “The American prisoner”: after the introduction by Camilla Todini, president of the ANPI section of Todi, she will talk about it with Giovanni Dozzini, Romina Perni and Tancredi Marini. UMBERTIDE

In addition to Liberation Day, the Alto Tiber municipality also celebrates the 80th anniversary of the Allied bombing of Borgo San Giovanni in which 74 people lost their lives. After the laying of wreaths in the hamlets of Montecastelli and Pierantonio, the procession will start from the Platform at 10.30 am, accompanied by the city band. In Piazza XXV Aprile, at 11.30, the mass will be celebrated presided over by Monsignor Pietro Vispi. At the end of the religious rite, speeches by the mayor Luca Carizia and the president of the Region, Donatella Tesei, will follow. The program will end at 6pm with the presentation, in Piazza XXV Aprile, of Mario Tosti’s book “1944: from barbarism towards civilization”.
