The arrest represents the outcome of a complex and delicate investigative activity coordinated by the Trani Prosecutor’s Office and carried out by the Financiers, also on the basis of technical investigations which allowed the meetings between the victim and the extortionist to be documented.
The investigations carried out made it possible to reconstruct, through the implementation of a complex device, all the appointments held between the Barletta businessman and the arrested manalso with the aid of cameras present inside the victim’s premises, documenting the violent methods with which the transfer of money, the subject of the extortion request, took place.
The subsequent operations allowed the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Trani to make a request for a precautionary measure in prison, which was then accepted by the investigating judge, for the crimes of both completed and attempted extortion and committed improper robbery. It is important to underline that the proceeding is in the preliminary investigation phase and that any guilt, in relation to the alleged crimes, will have to be ascertained during the trial in the cross-examination between the parties.
The investigation activity, carried out under the direction of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Trani, is part of a complex of actions that the Guardia di Finanza constantly carries out in order to prevent crime from taking advantage of difficult conditions for citizens and businesses , highlighting how the institutions represent a point of reference for an effective response to victims’ requests for justice, so as to encourage them to report any type of harassment.
