In Porto Torres the documentary film “Sardinia-Dakar, surrounded by water”

Sassari. Learning to perceive the sea and water not as a danger but as a uniting element, as a space in which to feel free and all equal and as a bridge between different worlds and cultures. It is the heart of the Sardinia-Dakar sports-humanitarian project created in Senegal last November by the Progetto ALbatroSS Sports Association with the support of the Uisp of Sassari, the Aquatic Team of Porto Torres and the Sardinia Foundation and documented in the docufim “Sardinia-Dakar Dakar, surrounded by water”, which was screened this morning at the Teatro Comunale Andrea Parodi in Porto Torres.

Manolo Cattari, Loredana Barra and Giuseppe Salis Farina, protagonists of the docufilm together with Baro Ka Der and Mattia Uldanck, explained to the students of the city schools who participated in the screening, the objectives of the project which aims to build a cultural bond and circulate between the city of Porto Torres and Senegal for the mutual strengthening of the capacity for education and inclusion thanks to sport. In particular, in the documentary film, the connection is underlined, through the concept of deprivation of freedom then regained, between the islands of Asinara and Gorée from where the slave ships headed to the Americas departed.

The event, sponsored by the Municipality of Porto Torres, was attended by the councilor for social and youth policies Simona Fois who underlined the attention of the municipal administration in promoting all those initiatives that strengthen the principles of equality and solidarity between peoples and individuals. Addressing the students, you spoke about the importance, in a historical period like the one we are living in, of cultivating friendships between different cultures. «Travelling, even just with your mind and imagination – he said – allows you to fill an ideal suitcase with many beautiful values ​​that will accompany you and help you throughout your life and thanks to which you will feel an integral part of a community which has no boundaries.”

Some guests of the Sai project (Sistema Accoglienza Integrazione) of Porto Torres, managed by Arci Mediterraneo, also took part in the screening, offering a touching testimony of their journey to arrive in Italy and of their experience of integration in the Turritano area. «We are happy to have them here with us today – added Simona Fois – because they demonstrate how the Sai project allows people who live in very difficult situations in their country to have the same protections as us and yours. We are luckier and it is right to share our luck with those who don’t have it.”
