Marsala Wine Marathon on Sunday

The ninth edition of the Marsala City of Wine Marathon will be held on Sunday 28 April: all the latest news

This year too, there are hundreds of participants who will show up at the start of the City of Marsala Wine Marathon on Sunday, the fourth round of the Sicilian Grand Prix of half marathons and included in the national Fidal calendar. The proximity in time to the April 25th holiday has pushed many to combine participation in the race with a short holiday in the welcoming Lilibetan city. For the organizers of the event, in its ninth edition and therefore on the verge of the tenth anniversary which will be celebrated in 2025, it is confirmation of how much the race is awaited and has become a reference for all of Italian athletics.

Registrations are pouring in hour by hour and among the most awaited big names, Federico Casati, a Lombard athlete of the DK Runners Milano and Michele Galfano of the organizing company Pol.Marsala Doc, second and third respectively last year, as well as the strong Pietro Palladino of Team Ingargiola. Vito Massimo Catania will not be missing, the marathon runner who won many regional classics and who for some time has preferred to run accompanying a disabled athlete in his wheelchair.

We will compete on the route now consolidated over time, the city circuit of just over 7 km to be covered three times, designed mainly on the seafront with the gaze always turned towards the Egadi Islands. A smooth and smooth route, where the wind and its direction can have a strong impact, as always. Starting from the Mediterranean seafront, in front of the Monument, you pass through via Colonnello Maltese, Piazza Piemonte and Lombardo, via Mario Nuccio, via Mazzini, piazza del Popolo, via Vespri, piazza Mameli, via Sibilla, viale Isonzo, piazza della Vittoria, via Cesare Battisti, via Isolato Egadi, via Capitano Falco, via Lungomare Salinella where the turning point is, via Lungomare Salinella, via Capitano Falco and back to Lungomare Mediterraneo.

The epicenter of the race will be the Monument to the Thousand, on the Mediterranean seafront right in the center of the city, where the start will be at 9.30 am and which will also be the venue for the arrival and the awards ceremony, which will concern the overall winners, the first 3 of each category and the company with the highest number of participants in the race. The winners will also receive free registration for next autumn’s Turin Marathon.

The collection of the bib and the very rich race pack is scheduled for Saturday from 3.00pm to 6.30pm at the Overture of the Pellegrino Winery in Lungomare Salinella and for those who want (and there will be many…) guided tours of the Historic Cellars will be available, by booking on the website www.carlopellegrino.it Still on the subject of visits, the Lilibeo Archaeological Museum has provided reduced entry (3.50 euros) for runners and their families on the race weekend. And these are just two of the attractions offered by the weekend dedicated to running but not only.
