Alessandro Izzo is one of those coaches that all presidents should trust, because he combines all those technical and decision-making skills that allow us to optimize the work of both building and leading a team. Izzo, 34 years old, in the world of futsal for over a decade, demonstrated this in his long parenthesis, first competitive and then on the bench of Atlante Grosseto, brought back to A2 after a few years of anonymity in the cadetteria, before the marriage broke up in course of this season. And after three months of forced rest, we decided to contact Alessandro Izzo to make a general reflection on his personal situation and that of futsal in Maremma (and beyond), but not without forgetting that the results obtained in the past season, which saw him winning promotion with a series of eleven consecutive victories as well as bringing the Under 19 team of Atlante among the top five in Italy, allowed him to win the 2023 Maremmano Sportsman award.

– Alessandro, first of all how are you?

“We say it very well and thank you very much for these kind words: I am happy to note that many do not forget. Regarding the past, my staff and I have certainly done great things in Grosseto, you have listed them all and so I won’t bother repeating them, but they are all inside my heart and each one is special. As regards the season just ended, I would like to say that together with the club we had set up a good roster, but we were initially penalized by very important injuries such as those of Leandrinho, Mateo and Falaschi despite being very good at reacting, stringing together victories against Lucrezia and Prato at home, drawing against Olimpia Regium and without forgetting the historic achievement in Bologna. We started 2024 by losing at Fabrica but the absences of Liburdi, Mateo and Gianneschi on that occasion were really heavy if we also consider Lessi feverish and Falaschi still out. Subsequently I decided to resign due to internal differences. Regarding the Under 19 – Izzo’s reflection continues – we obtained the pass for the Italian Cup and we were in full battle for the title, even if replicating last year’s results would have been unlikely but we would have tried. From here on I absolutely prefer not to express myself out of respect for the environment and above all for the good coach (Jukic, ndc) who replaced me.”

We had talked about Izzo’s qualities: a coach of his caliber cannot fail to attract the attention of the futsal market. Many liken him to Prato for the post-Bearzi era, but he denies it.

“I have heard this rumor from many but I guarantee you that it is not like that. Just as it is now impossible to think of a return to Atlas, also because no one from the club called me. I have many friends in Grosseto, but I find this solution very difficult.”

Tuscany is therefore certainly not just Grosseto or Prato, it is possible that other glimmers of hope may open up in the next few days. But currently Izzo is being talked about outside the region.

– Alessandro, where are you oriented? Is Emilia’s voice reliable?

“At the moment the biggest deals are far from home, but the market is just getting started. I am very flattered by this interest from Emilia, evidently I have sown well. If this were the case, however, I will have to think with particular attention because I have important work and non-work commitments to respect.”
