Fire at Trento hospital, damage assessment underway – News

Activities to verify the damage caused by the fire are underway broke out around 6 this morning in the endoscopy area of the Santa Chiara hospital in Trento. The causes are still being ascertained, but for now, malicious intent has been ruled out, as the premises affected by the flames are closed and off-limits to the public and healthcare personnel during the night. This was confirmed at a press conference by the director of the Infrastructure Department of the Provincial Health Services Company (APSS), Debora Furlani.

“Around 6 o’clock the alarm sounded and the compartmentalization of the hospital facilities began to contain the fire. A firefighting team from the hospital immediately reached the affected area, already invaded by smoke, but did not enter. Immediately afterwards they the firefighters of the permanent corps of Trento intervened”, explained Furlani.

According to what emerged, the fire only affected one room, but smoke and ash invaded the entire area. For safety, patients hospitalized on the upper floors and in the surrounding areas, in particular in the gynecology and obstetrics and ophthalmology departments, have been transferred. Overall, around twenty patients were transferred.
