ANCONA – He pretends to know the son of a 77-year-old elderly man and tries to get 160 euros in cash. For the scammer, a 47-year-old Neapolitan, a complaint for aggravated fraud and a mandatory expulsion order from the city of Ancona for two years.
This is what happened yesterday morning, when the investigators of the Flying Squad, in collaboration with the staff of the Police Station at the Torrette di Ancona hospital, intervened during an attempted scam. The 77-year-old, after going to the hospital for medical tests, was approached in the parking lot by a man who claimed to know him, to be a friend of his son and to need spare parts for a camera. The attacker also faked a phone call with the alleged victim’s son to confirm the request for money. Convinced by the man’s words, the elderly man withdrew 160 euros from an ATM inside the hospital, but before handing them over he contacted his son, who revealed the scam attempt. The victim then alerted the police personnel, who intervened promptly. The man responsible for the attempted fraud was identified, stopped and subsequently reported to the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Ancona. Furthermore, the provincial police commissioner issued a mandatory deportation order with a four-year ban on returning to the municipality of Ancona.
