AND Portofinoa renowned location in the province of Genoa, the richest municipality in Italy with a declared average per capita income of 90,610 euros out of a total of three hundred taxpayers.
This is the data published by the Ministry of Economy and Finance in the national report on tax returns in 2023 based on the 2022 tax year.

Portofino “blows” the record to Lajatico (province of Pisa), which compared to the previous survey has moved to second place with 52,955 euros of average income for 1,021 taxpayers.

He placed himself on the third step of the podium Basiglio, in the province of Milan, where the 5,704 registrants reach an average income of 49,524 euros. Following, from fourth position onwards, Briaglia (Cuneo), Cusago (Milan) and Torre d’Isola (Pavia), respectively with 43,475, 39,814 and 36,841 euros of average income. Most of the municipalities that occupy the top 30 of the Italian income ranking come from Lombardy. There are 17 of them.

The second region is Piedmont, which has six. Three from Liguria, including the first place. Two are in Tuscany (the second placed municipality is joined by Forte dei Marmi in 14th place with an average income of 34,945 euros). Finally, Emilia-Romagna and Valle d’Aosta, with only one municipality each: 20th and 21st position respectively for Albinea and Courmayeur with an average income of 33,174 and 33,073 euros. Among the capital cities, Milan, Monza and Bergamo stand out.

And the South? The photograph is that of an increasingly divided country that is unable to repair the historical socio-economic fractures. Lombardy remains steadily the region with the highest per capita income (25,698 euros in 2022, +1,126 euros compared to 2021), while Trentino-Alto Adige rises to second place (23,876 euros, +1,338 euros) overtaking Emilia-Romagna (23,713 euros, +982 euros). Despite increasing values, the southern regions remain behind: Calabria remains the region with the lowest per capita incomes (16,108 euros, +814 euros), followed by Molise (17,049 euros, +819) and Puglia (17,230 euros, + 849 euros). Campania sixth last (17,846, +916), stable in 15th position in the regional ranking.

But let’s come to Sannio: Benevento it has a per capita income of 20,628 (+747 euros compared to 2022) out of a total of 37,338 taxpayers. The city ranks last in Campania and 87th in the ranking of provincial capitals (where Andria, Barletta, Trani and Ragusa are the ‘poorest’ cities).

Caserta the first of the cities of Campania (35th place – 24,230), followed by Salerno (46th – 23,421), Avellino (49th – 23,093) and Naples (72nd – 21,327).

In the province the highest incomes are a San Giorgio del Sannio (19,573), Telese (19,250), Saint Nicholas Manfredi (19.128), Sant’Angelo a Cupolo (18,864), Paolisi (18,751) e Arpaise (18,632 – which shows a change of -4.4% compared to the previous year). The lowest ones in Fortore: Castelfranco in Miscano (10,348); Castelvetere in Val Fortore (10,440); Castelpagano (10,695).
