AVEZZANO. Multi-organ donation in the Avezzano hospital. The yes of the family of a 52-year-old woman, who was found to be brain dead, allowed doctors to start the operational machine for the removal of organs: lungs, kidneys and liver.
The protocol established by the Ministry of Health was activated on Monday night and yesterday morning several teams arrived at the hospital and took turns in the operating rooms. After the consent of the family members, the operational coordination of the regional transplant center was alerted and the six-hour observation period for brain death envisaged by current legislation began, at the end of which the surgical operations to remove the organs began.
A long and complex job which saw the three groups of doctors from L’Aquila, Bologna and Rome on the front line alongside the Anesthesia and Resuscitation team coordinated by the head physician Pierfrancesco Fusco with the support of the doctor Caesidius Cambyses. (eb)
