Yesterday, at the Government Palace, a crucial meeting took place regarding the problem of the Roma camp located in via Carrafiello in Giugliano in Campania. The meeting was chaired by the Prefect of Naples, Michele di Bari, and saw the participation of key figures such as Mario Morcone, regional councilor for Security, Legality and Immigration, the mayor of Giugliano, Nicola Pirozzi, Monsignor Giuseppe Mazzafaro, delegate of the Episcopal Conference of Campania for Roma and migrant issues, as well as the provincial leaders of the police forces and Francesco Micillo, owner of the occupied land.

During the meeting, the Prefect of Bari expressed solidarity with Micillo, underlining the commitment of the institutions to find a solution that leads to the liberation of the occupied land. A first concrete measure has been announced: a group of Roma, selected through a public notice issued by the Municipality of Giugliano, will move to a confiscated property located in Palmentiello, thus starting the process of relocation of the occupants.

Monsignor Mazzafaro confirmed the commitment of the Third Sector in supporting families during the transfer, while Councilor Morcone reiterated the economic support of the Campania Region to facilitate the transition. The owner of the land, Micillo, expressed gratitude for the initiatives promoted and for the attention received.

Mayor Pirozzi reassured us of the Municipality’s incessant work to address this complex situation. It was decided that the coordination table will continue to monitor developments through regular meetings, maintaining an open dialogue between all entities involved to ensure an effective resolution that respects the rights of all individuals involved.
