Descriptive text here

OLBIA. A well-defined three-year period, from 1793 to 1796, which tells the story of those who really made that piece of history as Giovanni Maria Angioy And Gioacchino Mundula. It’s the new book by Vindex Lecis, “The Alternos, the history of the Sardinian revolution”presented in the Simpliciana library of Olbia.

In the volume the journalist/writer from Sassari, with his unmistakable style, chronicle of the time on the one hand and real-life protagonists who are linked to characters born from his imagination on the other, guides the reader on a compelling journey that focuses on a message of pride and sense of belonging to Sardinia.

“Whoever reads the book – said Lecis during the presentation in which he spoke with Gianni Mutzuformer director of the Panedda high school in Olbia – must be led to fall in love with the events and to understand that period also through invented characters”.

The setting. The French Revolution upset the balance that had existed up to that point, European countries embraced absolute monarchy and declared war on France. The latter finds itself surrounded by coalition states that aim to crush its expansionist aims and the ideas sown by the Revolution. The French then arrive in Sardinia, a land of 340 thousand inhabitants. The island of San Pietro changes its name for six months, becoming “L’Ile de la liberté” and Cagliari is bombed but resists.

In this context Lecis gives life to sans-culotte Antonio Arras linked to a woman from Marseille, Baingio Oggianu And Michela Cugurraand brings to life Mundula and Angioy, the one whom the writer defined as “the greatest Sardinian jurist”.

“Pride and identity does not mean waving the flag of the four Moors at concerts – declared Vindex Lecis -. We must always question ourselves and the historical novel is important for stimulating knowledge, especially among young people. My fictional characters interact with historical truth, each with their own opinion.” “The Alternos” is available in all bookstores.
