Ayrton Senna: exhibition at the MAUTO in Turin, dates, exhibition

Thirty years after the tragic accident (1/5/1994) in which the Brazilian driver lost his life by violently crashing into the wall located on the outside of the Tamburello curve in Imola with his Williams FW16-Renault, opens today 24 April until Sunday 13 October 2024 the great exhibition AYRTON SENNA FOREVER in the spaces of the MAUTO, National Automobile Museum in Turin.

A truly unique exhibition that seeks to delve into two aspects of the champion’s life: sporting and private history of a man who won the hearts of millions of fans around the world. As Benedetto Camerana, President of MAUTO, declared, «thirty years have already passed, but the myth of Ayrton Senna it is more and more alive. An exceptional pilot, who became timeless especially after his tragic end, which transfigured him into the epic icon of himself, projecting him into the firmament of the great stars of our era.”

It took eight intense months of work to make AYRTON SENNA FOREVER exhibition, curated by Carlo Cavicchiwhich therefore intertwines the sporting history of one of the greatest automotive champions of all time (from his first experiences on karts to Formula 1 single-seaters) with a deeply human personal narrative, in an exhibition itinerary that becomes the choral portrait of the myth.

There will be many on display at the MAUTO in Turin 253 objects belonged to the pilot, from suits to helmets up to the cars he drove throughout his careerfrom the first Formula Fords to the latest Williams.

And the red thread of the driver’s sporting career is enriched with intimate and personal elements, returned to the public through extensive documentation: among Super8 movies And audiovisual installationsthe ones stand out hundreds of photographs taken by the greatest authors of the time who contribute to building a well-rounded portrait of Ayrton Senna: from his friend and photographer Angelo Orsi to Keith Sutton, from Ercole Colombo to Bernard Asset, from Steven Tee to Rainer Schlegelmilch.

The final result? «I believe that the exhibition can give visitors a… I remember of the great Brazilian ace, truly exhaustive and engaging. He, always demanding and fussy, would have wanted it that wayand it was the goal we sought from the beginning” said Carlo Cavicchi, curator of the exhibition.

Complete the exposition a cycle of five appointments meeting and debate involving drivers, journalists, designers and friends, loved ones and longtime rivals in the reconstruction of the champion’s sporting and personal story.

Among these, it special event on Wednesday 1 May 2024 with a live streaming connection with the Imola Autodrome to participate in the commemorative celebrations on the Tamburello curve. The story live from Imola will be interspersed throughout the day with insights from journalists, technicians and drivers present at MAUTO.

On the occasion of the exhibition, the MAUTO Café – the café inside the museum – has created a special aperitif, created as a tribute to the great Brazilian driver and the flavors of his homeland, Brazil.

Saturday 30 April 1994, at the Hotel Castello in Castel San Pietro Terme (BO), in Suite 200 Ayrton Senna’s last night took place. This is the title of the book written by the journalist and writer Giorgio Terruzzi, but also an event that will be held on April 30th and May 1st: the opening of the Suite that hosted the pilot the night before his tragic death.
