During investigations coordinated by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Ravenna, on 17 April, during a joint operation by the State Police and the Financial Police of Ravennawe proceeded to check a cargo ship flying the flag of the Marshall Islands, which arrived in Ravenna during the night and came from northern Europe.
In particular, the inspection was in-depth with the important contribution of the divers of the Rimini Aeronaval Operations Department of the Guardia di Finanza, who scanned the submerged part of the hull, finding, after several hours of activity and despite the difficulties linked to the terrible weather and sea conditions, several casings, inside the sea intake pipes, located about 9 meters deep from the waterline, certainly unrelated to the equipment of the ship. The operators, therefore, proceeded to extract said wrappers, handing them over to the anti-drug investigators of the Flying Squad and the Economic and Financial Police Unit in charge of the investigations, who promptly verified their contents… 139 blocks containing pure cocaine for a total of approximately 150 kilograms carefully protected by waterproof packaging designed to safeguard the integrity of the precious cargo.
The operation, also developed with the use of a helicopter from the aforementioned Aeronaval Operations Department of the Guardia di Finanza and with “ground” dog unitsis based on the broader context of combating international drug trafficking and was carried out in constant collaboration with the Central Directorate for Anti-Drug Services and the Central Operational Service of the State Police of Rome.
