The bill of the Regional Council was approved by majority which provides for ‘Further amendments and additions to the Consolidated Law on Agriculture (regional law 12/2015) and specifically the collection, marketing and valorisation of spontaneous, fresh and preserved epigean mushrooms’ .

The objective of the initiative is to improve citizens’ knowledge regarding the recognition of the different species of mushrooms and their edibility, on the reproduction mechanisms of the fungal flora, on the functioning of natural ecosystems and on correct behavioral norms, all this also at the in order to reduce the impact of harvesting on the natural ecosystems themselves.

For this reason, optional courses are provided, organized by the regional forestry agency, by the mycological inspectorates of the local health authorities, by mycological associations of national and regional importance on the basis of programs defined by the regional council. By participating in the aforementioned courses and issuing a certificate, Umbrian citizens, passionate about this sector, will also be able to go and pick mushrooms in extra-regional territories where they otherwise would not be able to do so. The changes and additions to the current text also strengthen prevention thanks to further specifications for the collection of specimens belonging to the Amanita genus.
