Promote and enhance commercial, artisanal and catering activities and the supply of food and drinks which constitute historical and cultural evidence of the Apulian territory: with this objective, regional law no. was born. 30 of 2021 thanks to which today we can count 792 historical and traditional activities in Puglia.

After an initial recognition of 488 historic shops, historic artisan workshops and historic venues with 30, 40 and 70 years of activity, the Puglia Region, after a specific investigation, includes a further 304 businesses operating throughout the regional territory in the list.

These are 131 historic shops, i.e. local units that carry out retail trade activities in fixed locations or within markets in public areas; 106 historic artisan workshops, local artisan units that carry out the production and direct retail sale of goods or services; 67 historic premises, local units exclusively or mainly dedicated to catering or the administration of food and drinks. Of these, the historical “Heritage of Puglia” activities, i.e. with at least 70 years of activity, are a total of 26 and the historical activities with at least 40 years of activity are a total of 124.

TO Bitonto There are two historical activities just included in the regional list. Here they are: Perrini optics (historic shop active since 1972) in Corso Vittorio Emanuele II 29 e Bar Ignomeriello (historic business active since 1990) in via IV november 65.

Previously, 9 other Bitonto activities had been included in the list: Achille Clothing (historic shop since 1988) in via Amedeo 29; Popular Ice Cream Bar (historical activity since 1969) in via Ammiraglio Vacca 54; Valentino footwear (historic shop since 1939) in via Repubblica Italiana 21; Sicolo goldsmith (historic shop since 1950) in via Repubblica Italiana 6; Bove Bakery by Valentina and Maria Giovanna (historic and traditional artisan workshop since 1950) in via De Ildaris 8-10-12; Bove di Valentino bakery (historic artisan activity since 1958) in Piazza Marconi 39; Acquafredda pastry shop (historical activity since 1976) in via Ammiraglio Vacca 31; Punto Verde flowers and plants (historical activity since 1992) in via Ammiraglio Vacca 30-30/A; Tambone Haberdashery Rucci (historical activity since 1940) in via Ammiraglio Vacca 10/B.

«Constant work by the regional offices together with the network of Technical Assistance Centers (CAT) and Technical Assistance Centers for Crafts (Cata) which allows us to identify under a single brand and therefore to promote and enhance all those activities who, despite the difficulties, have resisted and made Puglia great” they explain from the Region. «The objective of the recognition, which takes place through participation in a specific tender, is precisely to recognize the important work carried out by those entities that constitute testimony to the history, art, culture and entrepreneurial tradition of the Apulian territory and of support them through a series of initiatives, for example rewards in the promotion of regional tenders for the protection of local businesses, promotion of the regional list in tourist circuits, non-repayable contributions to business owners, facilitations for access to credit, or even support for apprenticeship contracts for the entry of young men and women into the world of work, supporting them in order to guarantee an essential generational transition so that the history of a piece of Puglia is not lost”.
