Trapani | The city mobilizes against the nuclear waste storage » Webmarte.tv

The municipal administration of Trapani has rejected the proposed construction of the national repository for radioactive waste.

Already a few weeks ago, a demonstration took place in Segesta which saw the mayors of the area in the front row, including that of Trapani Giacomo Tranchida.

In the National Map of the areas suitable to host the areas where the National Radioactive Waste Repository and the Technology Park will be built in Italy, drawn up by the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security, among the 51 areas whose requirements have been judged in line with the parameters foreseen by the Isin technical guide, in fact two Sicilian sites appear, both in the province of Trapani: Calatafimi-Segesta and Trapani.

The two sites identified fall, one in the municipality of Calatafimi, near the archaeological park of Segesta, the other in Fulgatore, the hamlet of the municipality of Trapani, where just over 1,000 inhabitants live.

Fulgatore is located in the Trapani hinterland, near the A29 Palermo-Mazara del Vallo motorway, an area of vineyards.

The mayor, accompanied by the councilor Peppe Pellegrino, the councilor of Calatafimi Segesta Massimo Fundarò and the regional deputy of the PD Dario Safina, went to the site of over 200 hectares identified by Sogin.

The inspection served to prepare the public meeting which will be held next Sunday 28 April at 6pm at the Fulgatore Social Centre.

On May 2, in Piazza Vittorio in Trapani, the mayors together with representatives of civil society and local companies will meet the students to invite them to take the field and be vigilant to protect their future and that of the territory, to avoid what the mayor defined a “nefarious government decision”.
