A large boulder and some debris fell around 11pm on Monday 22 April on the Gardesana Orientale state road in Torbole, in the Tempesta area.
The mayor of Nago Torbole Gianni Morandi was also on site and arranged for the road to be closed. The fallen boulder has a volume of approximately one and a half cubic metres, plus a few other smaller stones.
“I arranged for the immediate closure of the road – wrote the Mayor on social media – with the help of the Police and Carabinieri present on site and I activated the various civil protection services, namely the Fire Brigade and the PAT Road Service, requesting the intervention of the geologist above all to verify the safety of the nearby houses and the state of the slope from where the boulder fell. The houses have not been evacuated, but the state road will remain closed for the entire day of Tuesday 23rd, by which time the necessary earthworks will be carried out, the rockfall protection network will be restored and the road will be cleaned. With the mayor of Malcesine Giuseppe Lombardi – concludes Morandi – we have also activated Veneto roads to close them on their side”.
The provincial geologist arrived during the night and, at first light, he will carry out a detailed inspection and establish how to make the road safe.
