Olbia. MSC Orchestra cancels stop in Olbia
Descriptive text here

OLBIA. This morning, the cruise ship MSC Orchestra, arriving from Cannes, canceled the stop in Olbia due to the wind that is hitting the Gallura coast. At the moment there is no official confirmation regarding the rumors leaked from port circles, according to which the giant of the seas would have avoided entering the waters of the White Island due to the insufficient number of tugboatsnecessary to guarantee the safety of both the port geography but also of the ship itself.

Indeed, it is operational in Olbia a single tugboat, managed by the Moby division, whose contracting includes only one active vehicle. The problem, however, concerns the tonnages and dimensions of the new ships, including those of the Onorato group “Fantasy” and “Legacy”, which in wind conditions like today’s would require significantly higher safety standards. Starting with the presence of at least two tugboats.

Therefore, the hypothesis is not at all far-fetched that the commander of the MSC Orchestra, faced with adverse weather conditions, may have decided to avoid the Gallura port because he would not be able to guarantee adequate safety conditions, both on entry and exit. .

The certain fact, at the moment, is told by the map (below) which traces the ship’s navigation: the route initially planned towards Olbia was diverted directly towards Genoa. This decision by MSC entails significant economic damage for the entire maritime transport chain, from moorings at the quay through the presence of thousands of tourists in the city, up to guided excursions in the area. Was everything canceled due to the wind or outage?
