Caltanissetta, a prize for student-philosophers who are fans of Kant

CALTANISSETTA. Kant’s philosophy continues to show humanity the most engaging path it must follow if it wants to reach the realization of its nature and the desired “perpetual peace”. On the occasion of third centenary of the birth of the philosopher from Königsberg, on April 22nd in theater Queen Margaret Of Caltanissettatook place award ceremony for the winners of the first edition of the competition philosophy video “Immanuel Kant (1724-2024): 300 years and… not hearing them”, intended for students of Italian high schools and which involved the creation of an essay in which an interview between a journalist and a fan of the famous German philosopher was simulated. The event took place between music and reflections, during which the singer-songwriter musician performed Mariano Deiddadefined as a “singing poet” for having dedicated most of his records to setting poetry and lyrics by important writers to music.

The result achieved by the competition in which they participated twenty-two Italian schoolstestifies to the passion and will of those who still express their creativity. THE winners I am Nathaniel Gardose And Michael Werner of the fourth C of the “Giovanni XXIII” artistic high school Of Milan (professors Federico Bianchini and Elena Palazzini), Gloria Magrì of the fifth B of the “Judges Saetta and Livatino” institute Of Ravanusa (Professor Aurora D’Angelo) e Isabel Musardo, Ludovica Li Luzio And Samuele Berardi of the fifth A of the state high school “G. Marconi” Of Pescara (Professor Antonella Astolfi). The winning classes were awarded prizes of 1000 euros, 300 euros and 200 euros to the third place respectively, while the participants in the competition received a certificate. All the works in competition were analyzed by the jury, chaired by writer Zap Mongoose and composed of the mayor of Caltanissetta Roberto Gambino, the head teacher of the “Ruggero Settimo” high school Irene Collerone, the representative of the USR of Caltanissetta and Enna Alessandra Belvedere, the representatives of the Nisseni Student Council Aureliano Cereda and Matteo Lo Piano and the president of association “Rosario Assunto” Salvatore Farina. «This first event creates the basis for applying Caltanissetta as the venue for a national philosophy festival. Many objectives have been achieved in this first edition of the competition, others remain to be achieved – declares the head teacher of Ruggero Settimo in Caltanissetta, Irene Collerone – we wanted to encourage the students’ creativity through the production of the papers. Behind every video there is an important message that has been transmitted, Kant’s reflections are current themes on which we need to focus and involve the new generations.”

A moment of great participation and pathos that of awarding the winners of the competition, a voyage between the emotions dictated by the creativity of the videos made by young people and Kant’s reflection. The initiative was organized bycultural AssociationRosario Assunto”, in collaboration with the Municipality of CaltanissettaThe LyceumRoger the Seventh” Of Caltanissetta and with the Consultation of Nissi students which asked students, starting from the main problems that grip our era, to favor the answers that Kant would have given: on the role of beauty and art in human life; on the meaning and function of freedom of expression in the social dimension and on the close relationship between the political community and international relations.

«War rages, the world burns, perpetual peace remains written in paper – comments Michael Werner, fourth C student of the “Giovanni XXIII” art high school in Milan -we are far from the world Kant would have wanted.” «Through this video – comments Giulia Di Pasquali from the fifth B of the “Giudici Saetta e Livantino” Institute of Ravanusa – we wanted to make Kant as current as possible, to ensure that Kantian ethics does not remain a theory, but can become modern-day morality.” «I have to thank the enthusiasm that my boys showed in making the video – adds professor Aurora D’Angelo of the institute “Judges Saetta and Livatino” Of Ravanusa – for us it is a great emotion to have achieved second place in such an important competition. I hope that these small seeds will be able to grow responsible citizens. We wanted to deal with theto “perpetual peace“, theorized by Immanuel Kant, because it is a message from which politics should take inspiration.” «It was an interesting work, we tried to imagine what Kant might think of the current world and project it into contemporary life – explain Isabel Musardo, Ludovica Li Luzio and Samuele Berardi, fifth A students of the “G. Marconi” of Pescara – the thought of the philosopher from Königsberg is current and universal.”

«I was born as a singer-songwriter twenty-five years ago and I thought that one of the ways to involve the new generations was to set literature to music – says the composer Mariano Deidda – because through books we can discover the ways to improve ourselves and grow. The generation of singer-songwriters born in the 1950s taught us this and gave us beautiful and very important songs that helped us grow. They loved literature and were probably passionate about books and that’s what’s missing today. We should encourage children more and more to read classic books because that is where the secret lies. My project was to create a bridge between the great generation of author music and what was to come after or what will be.”
