Coconut supply chain, innovation and strategies for the future in Cherasco (Cuneo) – Agenfood

(Agen Food) – Cherasco (CN), 23 April. – by Pol. Cla. – The conference entitled “The core, innovation and strategies for the future”. Organized by Confagricoltura in collaboration with Producer Organizations Ascopiemonte, Asprocor and Coricoop it is a day entirely dedicated to hazelnut, an event that has established itself as crucial for farmers and professionals in the sector from all over Italy.

Roberto Abellonio, Director of Confagricoltura Cuneo declares that there are over 28,000 hectares cultivated hazelnut in Piedmont, over 90,000 throughout Italy. Many difficulties have recently affected cultivation: climate change, decreased production and the onset of new phytopathologies. Only through research and innovation can we face the future with greater certainty.

Gianluca Griseri, technician among the organizers of the conference, highlights that the focus of this edition focuses on the future directions and potential of hazelnut cultivation, which has experienced considerable development in the last decade, but which is currently in a phase of stasis and uncertainty. It is necessary to find sustainable and innovative hazelnut management methods that can cope with climate change and increasing production costs. move towards modern cultivation with a concrete management and development program, aimed at guaranteeing fair remuneration for the product. Combining environmental sustainability with productive and economic sustainability is the starting point for the future of the entire Italian hazelnut production chain.

The program includes as the first speech that of Mercè Rovira of the Institute of Agri-food Research and Technology (IRTA) of Tarragona (Spain), who will present the cultivation of hazelnuts in Spain, between certainties and uncertainties. Following this, Sergio Tombesi of the Department of Sustainable Plant Production Sciences of the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart of Piacenza will illustrate the possibility of using non-sucking rootstocks in modern hazelnut cultivation. Subsequently, Vincenzo Tagliavento, Phy.Dia laboratory manager. spin off of the University of Tuscia (VT), will deal with the diagnostic methods of the main plant diseases that affect the hazelnut tree. In conclusion, Giuseppe Celano, from the Agricultural Course – DIFARMA at the University of Salerno, will talk about the sustainability of Italian coriliculture in light of climate change.

The day dedicated to hazelnuts will continue with the usual “open doors” of the Chianchia company, specialized in the production of machines for harvesting, cleaning and drying hazelnuts.

The conference is valid for the issuing of training credits for those registered in the Register of the Interregional Federation of Orders of Agronomists and Forestry Doctors of Piedmont and Valle d’Aosta and of the Interprovincial College of Agricultural Experts and Graduated Agricultural Experts of Alessandria, Asti, Cuneo , Turin and Valle d’Aosta.
