Just last Tuesday it was said that the week that was about to arrive would be the week of truth for Taranto. On the one hand the wait for the appeal ruling regarding the appeal presented by the rossoblù club regarding the penalization affair, on the other the match against Avellino. A real final, a crucial test for the future of the Ionian team in this championship. Well it was a week of two faces, two states of mind and two completely different situations. First of all, the news of the rejection of the appeal which caused despair and anger in the minds of the rossoblù locker room. Perhaps, maybea pinch of resignation. Secondly, the great response of the players on the pitch in the match against Avellino. As if a lion had been wounded in its soul, in its essence. The performance against the Irpinia team was just like the roar of a lion who wanted to demonstrate that his strength, his vigor, his desire to win had not been undermined by the disastrous news of the rejected appeal.

That’s how it was on the field. A demonstration of unprecedented physical and technical power. An impeccable tactical reading of the match by Capuano against a real battleship that, among other things, arrived in Taranto with confidence after the success against Benevento. There were the ingredients to witness a complicated and painful match on a psychological and technical level and, instead, Capuano’s team he further demonstrated those qualities that have been solid and certain foundations throughout the season. And, precisely in the most difficult moment, we managed to beat a big team. It was exactly what was missing, what everyone was finally waiting for. The icing on the cake of an incredible journey. Sixty-six points on the field (second place without penalty) shared with Avellino and Benevento. The consecration of a project that began with Cascia’s retreat and has continued to this day. And now the final ranking is expected next Saturday after the match in Latina.

Of course, reality says otherwise. The ranking speaks of Taranto fifth in the ranking. The players’ minds, however, as specified in the press conference by Simone Simeri, match winner of the day, say that they are second. Because the field says that. Because this is the truth. The numbers never lie. So, the reality is that Taranto can definitively be included in the elite group C of Serie C and that it has demonstrated that it can be there in a clear and unequivocal way. And all this thanks to hard and long-lasting weekly work, with ideas, with self-sacrifice and with the construction of a strong and cohesive group. Now the focus is on the match in Latina to see where Taranto will be positioned in the play off grid and, if you look at what happens on the pitch, the prospects are really tasty. The locker room experiences everything with extreme lightness and, perhaps, a pinch of curiosity. And, who knows, maybe adrenaline. Even the players don’t know what could happen but light-heartedness could be that decisive weapon to cradle a dream with, in the background, the hope of good news from the CONI Guarantee Board.
