The room for protected interviews of women victims of violence and minors has been inaugurated at the Foligno police station. A realization possible thanks to the work of the Soroptimist “Valle Umbra” and the Cassa di Risparmio di Foligno Foundation.

The guests

Present at the event, organized by the Perugia Police Headquarters by Soroptimist International, were the Director of the Central Anti-Crime Service, Giuseppe Linares, the Police Commissioner of the Province of Perugia, Fausto Lamparelli; the Mayor of Foligno, Stefano Zuccarini; the President of the Soroptimist International of Italy, Adriana Macchi, the President of the Valle Umbra Club of the Soroptimist International, Maria Cristina Zappelli, the Bishop of Foligno, HE Monsignor Domenico Sorrentino, the President of the Cassa di Risparmio di Foligno Foundation, Monica Sassi, the civil and military authorities of the province.

A room of your own

The initiative, which is part of the Soroptimist International Club Valle Umbra project “A room of one’s own“, has as its primary objective to encourage women to ask the State Police for help in situations of violence, guaranteeing adequate support in the crucial moment of formalizing complaints. The protocol in question, in fact, is aimed at establishing safe and hospitable environments, designed to ensure victims a sense of protection and understanding, facilitating the formalization process without the inconvenience of having to cross the common spaces of the Police Offices.

The spaces between art and architecture

In continuity with similar initiatives launched in recent years in the areas of Foligno, Assisi and Spoleto, theAssociation has extended the implementation of these protected environments to other offices of the Italian law enforcement agencies. The layout plan for these spaces, curated by Raffaella Conte and enriched by the work “Tra stelle e libellule” (pastel and gold leaf) by the Spoleto artist Maria Teresa Romitelli (both members of the club), is designed to promote an environment that facilitate communication and psychological comfort.

Initiative inspired by Virginia Woolf

The name of the project, inspired by the novel “A Room of One’s Own” by Virginia Woolf, symbolizes the importance of a personal and safe space for women, essential to their recovery process. The Soroptimist International of Italy, through these interventions, continues to promote female empowerment and the protection of the rights of women and minors, actively engaging against all forms of violence and discrimination.

The presence of President Puletti

A way to convey trust towards victims of gender violence, a way to take the victim by the hand and guide her towards her freedom on a path where she will never be alone, these rooms want to summarize sensitivity and dedication on the part of our institutions to the topic . I participated with great joy and pride in the inauguration of the project, in the hope that these initiatives will be increasingly frequent in our territory, in order to ensure that all Umbrian citizens receive concrete help in times of need.”, said the regional councilor Manuela Puletti, who participated in the event as president of the commission of inquiry into feminicide of the regional council.
