Viterbo – Sad anniversary for the yellow and blue fans. Those who once supported Viterbese, many of whom have moved to nearby Vignanello to support FC Viterbo. The Rocchi stadium “celebrates” exactly one year without matches and exactly one year of total or almost total abandonment.

The last match that was played in the via della Palazzina facility was the one between Viterbese and Virtus Francavilla dated Sunday 23 April 2023. The match which, to be clear, was supposed to prolong the Gialloblù’s hope of playing the play-outs against Grosseto but which, in fact , sanctioned the disappearance of Marco Romano’s club and the disappearance of professional football in Viterbo. With the only alternative, as mentioned, formed by the transformation of the Polisportiva Favl Cimini into FC Viterbo. Experiment welcomed with positivity by the market, also due to Piero Camilli’s commitment as sponsor, but with still mixed results.

Immediately afterwards, there was a series of decisions by the municipal administration which first said “no” to Viterbese which asked for the pitch for the D series, and then did the same with FC Viterbo which wanted to move to the city to attempt the climb from Lazio Excellence to professionalism.

The story is long, too long and now known to everyone. The stadium is currently changing ownership from the region, which has already sent the free loan contract, to the municipality. Municipality which, for its part, is still stuck in the preparation of the tender for the assignment of the structure to a sports club. And we know, with the bureaucratic times and the various delays around the corner, the risk of finding ourselves in September with the Rocchi still empty is increasingly real.

In the meantime, the grass on the pitch is in a pitiful condition, the benches taken away from the old Viterbese have not been replaced, nor have the changing rooms and offices which remain empty and abandoned due to general neglect. The situation is incredible. The stadium affair is one of the biggest disasters of the council led by Chiara Frontini.
