Nominations for the “Venice per il Mare” award by Assonautica – Venice and Rovigo Chamber of Commerce opened today.
The prestigious award which in 2000 was presented at the Quirinale by President Ciampi to Francesco de Angelis and the Luna Rossa crew, will be awarded to “Italian and foreign personalities who have distinguished themselves in various capacities for the defense of the sea, its knowledge, the protection of maritime and coastal culture and heritage, the research and development of technologies including the production of innovative systems and boats aimed at preserving the seas and oceans from the impact of human activities, as well as the development of fishing and farming that contribute to the conservation of fish stocks. Among the various areas in which to participate is that dedicated to volunteering and professions that provide assistance at sea as well as the diffusion of the culture of the sea and water sports through participation in competitions or with activities in schools and at national and international sports clubs ”.

Applications must be sent no later than May 15th to: [email protected] attaching the candidate’s curriculum vitae with express and detailed reference to the activities carried out/in progress with respect to the themes of the 2024 competition.
Among the 4 winners of the last edition of “Venezia per il Mare”, the Lion of San Marco was awarded to Mirko Sguario, founder and President of the Venice Yacht Club.
Mirko Sguario won the prize thanks to the Venice Hospitality Challenge, the Maxy Yachts sailing regatta in the San Marco basin which this year will take place on 19 October.
The other 2 Venetians awarded in 2023 are Pietro Tosi, Shipwright, Engineer, Inventor, effervescent Venetian Business Captain who, among the many green technological innovations, created the first boat in the world for the transport of works of art to constant temperature and humidity and Giampaolo Montavoci, multiple World Motorboat Champion.
Montavoci was awarded for having designed and built the electric racing boats made available free of charge to children aged 14 to 17 of the FIM GT ELECTRA formula and for having created the first race in the world for battery-powered boats, approved by the Federation Italian Powerboating.
In the art and culture section, the 2023 prize was awarded to Riccardo Sassoli for having been editor of the ARTE NAVALE magazine for over 15 years, considered by enthusiasts and professionals in the nautical sector to be the most beautiful sea magazine ever seen in the world.

The 2024 Venice International Boat Show is increasingly characterized, also through this renewed initiative, as a multifaceted container of entrepreneurship, sport, culture and beauty. The President of the Venice Rovigo Chamber of Commerce Massimo Zanon, the President of Assonautica Italiana Giovanni Acampora, the President of Assonat Luciano Serra, the President of Confindustria Nautica Saverio Cecchi as well as various leading exponents of politics, institutions and of the police force.
