Foggia. We remind you that tomorrow, Monday 22 April, on the occasion of the celebrations of International Earth Day, the second stage of the project “LET’S GROW THE FUTURE, Zero waste in the field” will be held, born from the collaboration of the University of Foggia Department of Agricultural Sciences, Food , Natural Resources and Engineering (DAFNE) with the Swedish renewable energy company OX2, on one of the most important current issues of this millennium: waste and its correct disposal.

The project, with a view to encouraging growing civil and environmental responsibility, aims to involve citizens and, in particular, the new generations through a process of raising awareness of the issue of waste, its use, its disposal, their recycling.

After the inaugural event of the project activities, held last March 21st, this second appointment will be an opportunity to present to the institutions and citizens the decalogue of sustainable behavior created by the students of the Pavoncelli Institute, protagonists of the first meeting of an open discussion with the representatives of the Capitanata Territory sadly affected by the plague of indiscriminate abandonment of waste. This is a symbolic passing of the baton in the dialogue between young generations and civil society for the identification of solutions and good practices that can contribute to realizing a shared project of a sustainable future based on an “environmental conscience” for the protection of the territory and the biodiversity.

Some actions already implemented by the project partners are also included in this perspective, such as meetings with the high schools of Foggiano and new collaborations.

Since 2022, CIA Puglia has been conducting specific and timely studies on the legal and administrative profiles connected to the illicit dumping of waste in the Apulian countryside, as a result of which it has strengthened and structured the dialogue and institutional synergy with the Municipalities of the Capitanata area most exposed to the phenomenon of abandonment illicit use of ecoballs in private agricultural fields and with the Province of Foggia, as the competent territorial body in environmental matters, for the specific purpose of defining and applying uniform and shared administrative procedures regarding the correct attribution of economic responsibility for the costs of waste removal and disposal, which current legislation places on land owners exclusively where they are in a state of abandonment or neglect.

Legambiente, University of Foggia and OX2 are committed to supporting the energy transition through policies and interventions that affect the structures and areas of competence.
