A big party with the launch and landing of paratroopers this morning in Piazza Duomo in Pistoia as part of the Festa del 183rd Nembo Regiment stationed in the Tuscan city.
With the launch of the Italian Tricolore, of the bflag of the city of Pistoia e flag of the 183rd Regiment.
The paratroopers landed with the usual millimetric precision on a mat positioned in the center of Piazza Duomo, packed with spectators.
Ceremony as part of the celebrations for the 79th anniversary of the Battle of Case Grizzano. Location of the Emilian Bolognese Apennines where on 19 April 1945 there was combat between the battalion of Nembo Regiment and the 1st Parachute Division of the German army, fresh from the fighting in Cassino, whose members were called ‘Green Devils’
In the fight, the Italian paratroopers under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Giuseppe Izzo conquered the Case Grizzano stronghold, which represented the keystone of the entire German defense system placed to protect Bologna.
For the great value demonstrated by the Italian soldiers the flag of the Nembo regiment was awarded the silver medal for military valor and Lieutenant Colonel Izzo, seriously wounded, was awarded the gold medal for military valor.
The victory of the Italian paratroopers opened the way for the Allied forces to liberate Bologna.
In Pistoia the regimental units marched from Piazza della Resistenza through the streets of the city to Piazza del Duomo, where the ceremony took place.
Event preceded in recent days by the Open Day at the Giovanni Marini Barracks in Pistoia which organized the events.
